What's the big deal with small breweries?
Well, not much. EXCEPT microbreweries are the hottest thing happening in Ontario right now. Independantly made craft beer is outselling the big guys enough that they're buying out the small guys. Their sales have been dropping, but craft beer sales jumped by 13% in 2015. Home brewers are discovering that they can make beer that tastes better than pretty well anything they can buy in the store.
I chatted with an Excise Canada dude who said they are now receiving one application a week for a new brewery licence. Word has it that we're about 15 years behind the states, who are still seeing amazing growth in the industry. Frankly, I'm excited!
